Choral Conducting Institute

Dr. Harold Rosenbaum established his Choral Conducting Institute in 2014 to provide choral conductors with positive and supportive feedback, a deeper understanding of their art, and an opportunity to grow under the guidance of a world-renowned maestro

The workshop is open to choral conductors of all ages, church musicians, music educators, and musicians from around the world. Individuals who wish to expand their careers and professional networks will benefit from Dr. Rosenbaum’s intensive experience. The course is limited to twelve active participants so that each may receive individual attention, constructive feedback, and the opportunity to conduct a choral work.

In addition, Dr. Rosenbaum will lead discussions devoted to the study of scores and interpretation, including:

  • Baton use
  • Conducting recitatives
  • Rehearsing from the keyboard
  • Expressive singing
  • Working with soloists
  • Staccatos, tenutos, choral crescendos, grace notes and glissandos
  • Singer and instrument placements
  • And more

Active participants work closely with the maestro while learning the intricacies of choral conducting. Auditors pay a reduced tuition and may observe the proceedings throughout the week

Dr. Rosenbaum has received innumerable distinguished conducting awards and has accumulated hundreds of glowing press reviews- and NEVER a negative one. During his nearly half-century career, he has conducted more than 1800 concerts in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Rosenbaum also has received unanimous critical acclaim for his groundbreaking book, A Practical Guide to choral Conducting. You can read more about Dr. Rosenbaum by clicking on this link to Harold Rosenbaum’s biography.

Professional Development Certificates available to active participants upon request.

Other topics may include when to use a baton, when to conduct recitatives, how to run rehearsals from the keyboard, singing expressively, working with soloists, how to interpret staccatos, tenutos, choral crescendos, grace notes and glissandos, the placement of singers and piano in performance, and much more.
Participants receive in-depth interaction with the maestro as they learn the intricacies of choral conducting. Auditors pay a reduced tuition and are welcome to attend any events during the week. Singers who wish to participate in the Institute Choir beginning on the third day pay no tuition.
